Nitesh Ranes Open Threat To The Muslim Community Two Cases Registered

Nitesh Rane's Open Threat to the Muslim Community: Two Cases Registered

Background

Nitesh Rane, a Maharashtra MLA and son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, has stirred up controversy with his recent remarks targeting the Muslim community.

During a public gathering in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district on Saturday, Rane made inflammatory statements, openly threatening violence against Muslims if they opposed the construction of a Bal Hanuman temple in a Muslim-dominated area.

Police Action

Following widespread outrage over Rane's comments, two cases have been registered against him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

One case was registered at Kankavli police station under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The second case was filed at Kolhapur police station under the same sections, along with section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Condemnation and Criticism

Rane's remarks have drawn widespread condemnation from political and social circles.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has condemned the statement, calling it "irresponsible and provocative."

Member of Parliament Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, "Such statements are dangerous and have no place in a civilized society. Hate speech and threats of violence should be condemned and dealt with strictly."

Legal Implications

The Indian Penal Code provisions invoked against Rane carry significant consequences.

Section 153A prescribes imprisonment for up to three years or a fine, or both.

Section 295A carries a maximum sentence of five years and a fine.

Section 506 mandates imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both.

Rane is currently in police custody and will be produced in court on Monday.
